Merrill names India investment head

Jayanti Bajpai, who has already stepped in to this role, is also COO of the company's European operations.

Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. has appointed Jayanti Bajpai as its head investment banking in India, according to a memo obtained by Dow Jones Newswires.
Mr. Bajpai, who has already stepped in to this role, is also chief operating officer of the company’s European operations.
He has worked in New York, Hong Kong and London during his 20 years at the company.
In the new position, Mr. Bajpai will take over from Merrill Lynch’s vice chairman of India Origination, Patti McLaughlin, who has been spearheading the group’s Indian investment banking operations in the past year.
Ms. McLaughlin will continue to serve as vice chairman.
New York-based Merrill runs its India business through 90%-owned DSP Merrill Lynch Ltd.
The remainder of the company is owned by Indian tycoon Hemendra Kothari, according to Dow.
