Previously, he was a vice president at State Street Global Advisors of Boston.

AXA Equitable Life Insurance Co. of New York has hired Brian F. Birmingham, 45, as vice president and chief marketing officer for Corporate Markets, a business unit of the company.

Previously, he was a vice president of institutional market strategy for the institutional retirement income group at Genworth Financial Inc. of Richmond, Va.

Baird Financial Corp. of Milwaukee has named Doug Schmidt, 49, senior vice president, financial adviser at its Chicago and Winnetka, Ill., offices.

He was previously a financial adviser with William Blair & Co. of Chicago.

Kingsbury Capital LLC of Chicago has hired Kenneth B. Hoganson Jr., 63, James E. Maxwell, 64, Jason N. Slezak, 48, and William H. Teinowitz, 42.

Mr. Hoganson joins as senior vice president from Hoganson Venture Group of Hinsdale, Ill., where he was founder and president since the firm opened in 1985.

Mr. Maxwell joins as senior vice president from Chicago Investment Group, where he served as senior vice president.

Mr. Slezak joins as vice president from Chicago-based Birkelbach Investment Securities Inc., where he managed retail and institutional client development.

Mr. Teinowitz joins as investment executive from Chicago-based Fleetwood Realty Corp., where he served as vice president.

DWM Financial Group Inc.of Palatine, Ill., has named W. Brad Waite, 31, national marketing director of its DWM Investment Management LLC division.

Previously, Mr. Waite was an investment manager at Montis/Exley Asset Management LLC of Charleston, S.C.

UBS Financial Services Inc. of New York, a subsidiary of UBS AG of Zurich, Switzerland, has named John T. McCauley, 39, general manager of the firm’s new private-wealth-management office in Houston.

Previously, he was the branch office manager at the UBS Dallas-Crescent Court office.

D.A. Davidson & Co. of Great Falls, Mont., has promoted Dave Pollock, 52, to senior vice president, director of western Washington branches, overseeing seven offices that serve individual investors.

He served as branch manager for the firm’s Seattle and Aberdeen, Wash., offices. In his new role, Mr. Pollock will also supervise the firm’s branches in Bellevue, Bellingham, Edmonds, Everett and Redmond, all in Washington.

Amalgamated Life Insurance Co. of New York has appointed Gabriel Vonleh, 43, vice president of operations for fund administration and membership services.

He will be responsible for overseeing eligibility, collections, new membership and external audits of participating funds.

Mr. Vonleh previously served as director of enrollment and premium billing for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island in Providence.

Smith Barney, a subsidiary of Citigroup Inc. of New York, has hired Thomas Bencosme for its Manhattan branch office.

Mr. Bencosme, 36, was previously vice president and financial manager for UBS AG of Zurich, Switzerland.

Smith Barney has also hired Mark Chapman, 49, James Diepenbrock, 49, and Katrina Semmes, 27, as financial advisers for its Sacramento, Calif., branch.

Previously, the three were advisers at UBS AG.

Sun Life Financial Inc. of Toronto has appointed Michael E. Shunney, 50, president of Sun Life Financial Distributors Inc.

He will oversee annuity wholesaler productivity and lead development of the company’s distribution operations.

In addition to his duties as president, Mr. Shunney will continue to serve as senior vice president and general manager of Sun Life Financial Distribution Group.

First Allied Securities Inc. of San Diego has hired Scott Umstead, 54, as national sales manager.

Previously, he was president and chief executive of Sweetwater Asset Management LLC of Canonsburg, Pa.

MFC Global Investment Management LLC of Boston has named Frank Saeli, 46, head of U.S. institutional sales and relationship management.

Previously, he served as vice president and principal at State Street Global Advisors of Boston, where he was responsible for new-business development in the corporate-pension, insurance, endowment and foundation, and not-for-profit markets.

Focus LLC of Washington has hired Jim Millar, 45, and Jim Pursiano, 47.

Mr. Millar is a managing editor in the firm’s Atlanta office, and Mr. Pursiano is a managing director in the San Francisco office.

Previously, Mr. Millar was a managing principal at The Vine Group of Alpharetta, Ga.

Mr. Pursiano joins Focus from Applied Materials Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif., where he was most recently a managing director in the corporate-business-development unit.

The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board, based in Alexandria, Va., has appointed Marcelo Vieira, 37, director of research.

Previously, he served as vice president of industry research for the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association of New York and Washington, where he also was a research analyst and director of market statistics.
