Idea of insurance info office remains alive

A bipartisan group of House members last month sent a letter to new Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner encouraging him to create an office of insurance information in his department. The letter, signed by seven lawmakers, encourages the creation of the office “to fill a void on insurance oversight and expertise at the federal level.” Last year, Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Pa., introduced a bill that would have established such an office, but the measure never made it out of committee.
