REGULATION: More adviser oversight could be on its way

SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro said last month that among the regulator’s priorities this year is improved oversight of broker-dealers and investment advisers. According to a recent InvestmentNews report, part of the agency’s assessment of pertinent regulation might include the issue of whether all financial advisers should be considered fiduciaries and whether advisers should fall under the authority of a regulatory organization.
