John Hancock Financial Services Inc. announced today that James R. Boyle has been named president, directing all phases of the firm’s operations.
Previously, he served as president of the Boston-based firm’s life insurance division and as president of its U.S. wealth management division.
Mr. Boyle succeeds John D. DesPrez III as president.
In September 2008 the firm’s parent company, Toronto-based Manulife Financial Corp., announced that Donald Guloin would take over as president and chief executive of Manulife on May 7, following the retirement of Dominic D’Allessandro this month.
At that time, the firm also announced that John DesPrez would become chief operating officer for Manulife, with responsibility for the firm’s global insurance and wealth management operations, with divisions in the United States, Canada, Asia and Japan.
He also retained his title of chairman and chief executive of John Hancock.
