Gratus Capital brings hedge funds to clients with iCapital alliance

The investment advisory firm’s new fintech partnership marks the first phase of its broader comprehensive strategy.

Investment advisory firm Gratus Capital is offering a more diverse range of investment opportunities to its high-net-worth clientele through a new partnership.

The firm announced that it is collaborating with global fintech platform iCapital to provide its wealth management clients to access to hedge fund investment opportunities.

Aside from giving clients a private market investment onramp through one of the world’s leading alternative platforms, the partnership marks the initial phase of Gratus’ broader long-term strategy.

That master plan has several main pillars, including reimagining how financial advice talent is defined, bolstering internal strategy frameworks, and building a diverse marketplace of opportunity for alternative investments to benefit its clients.

Hank McLarty, founder and CEO of Gratus Capital, said the partnership is emblematic of his firm’s commitment to support its clients’ personal wealth goals and future planning decisions with “greater precision and performance in client portfolios.”

“It sets the stage for what we hope will be a series of Gratus hedge fund offerings designed to enhance alternative investing opportunities in desired asset classes,” he said in a statement.

“Not only does the partnership model of fund management align interests, but it also gives Gratus exposure to very talented investment professionals that we wouldn’t otherwise have,” echoed Chief Investment Officer Todd Jones, highlighting the partnership’s strategic benefits.

Jones also pointed to the potential for their firm to “meet the needs of larger, more sophisticated clients” through iCapital’s “well-regarded institutional-quality technology.”

“We are committed to continuing the transformative work iCapital is doing with our partners to help the wealth management industry meet the growing demand for alternative investments,” said iCapital Chairman and CEO Lawrence Calcano.

The partnership is just the latest move in iCapital’s continuing efforts to expand advisors’ access to alternative investments.

In April, it announced plans to snap up data aggregation and financial reporting provider Mirador, which offers a gamut of services tailored to advisors working with high-net-worth investors, family offices, and institutions.

Earlier this month, iCapital unveiled a line of asset-allocation strategies, iCapital Model Portfolios, that includes exposure to private equity, private credit, and real assets.
