Your true love’s cost of buying all of the gifts in the holiday classic song “The 12 Days of Christmas” has risen only 0.9% from last year to $87,402.
Blame (or thank) the weak economy for the modest rise for all 364 gifts, according to analysis from PNC Wealth Management, which calculates their cost each year.
The $87,402 figure is what it would cost your true love to buy all of the items if he or she repeated all of the song’s verses. But PNC Wealth Management said a consumer who simply purchased all of the gifts without repeating the verses would spend $21,465, 1.8% more than last year’s cost.
The sharp rise in gold prices caused the cost of the five golden rings to jump 43% to $499.94. The cost of the seven swans-a-swimming, which generally provides the biggest price swings from year to year, fell this year by 6.3% to $5,200.
Declines in the cost of birds were a major factor in the moderate increase. The cost of a partridge in a pear tree fell 27.3% to $159.99. Also, the six geese-a-laying decreased in price 37.5% to $150, PNC reported.
