The SEC is scrutinizing the municipal-bond market in an effort to improve its transparency for investors. In a recent speech, Andrew “Buddy” Donohue, director of the SEC’s Investment Management Division, said the agency plans to hold hearings across the country about the market and then consider specific changes to laws, regulations or private-sector best practices to better protect municipal-securities investors.
