Public companies would be required to make new disclosures to investors under rule amendments proposed by the SEC. Basically, the changes would require companies to provide a comprehensive explanation in SEC filings of its short-term borrowing arrangements. The SEC’s goal is to shed more light on such practices so that investors can better understand whether short-term borrowings reported at the end of reporting periods are consistent with borrowed amounts existing throughout those reporting periods.
