People on the move: SagePoint taps new recruiting exec; Oppenheimer snags a new MD

SagePoint Financial Inc. of Phoenix has hired Geoff Oprandy, 39, as senior vice president of recruiting, and Mary Simonson, 49, as vice president and chief compliance officer.

SagePoint Financial Inc. of Phoenix has hired Geoff Oprandy, 39, as senior vice president of recruiting, and Mary Simonson, 49, as vice president and chief compliance officer.

Mr. Oprandy is responsible for the “new adviser experience,” including direct recruiting of independent advisers, managing the recruiting department, leading the transition and affiliation process, and consulting with existing offices of supervisory jurisdiction on strategies to recruit into their branches. Previously, he was group vice president in Phoenix with Ameriprise Financial Inc. of Minneapolis.

Ms. Simonson will manage the compliance department and is responsible for the continued development, implementation and maintenance of all compliance procedures within the firm, as well as managing all regulatory examinations of the firm. Previously, she was director of business development in Portland, Ore., with CFM Partners Inc. of Washington, D.C.

Matthews International Capital Management LLC of San Francisco has hired Jonathan Schuman, 39, as executive vice president and head of global business development, and James Campion, 53, as vice president and head of Asia business development.

Mr. Schuman is responsible for leading the firm’s international-business-development strategy, forging relationships with key distribution partners and directing the firm’s global sales efforts. Previously, he was managing director in Tokyo for PineBridge Investments of New York, where he was responsible for institutional sales and marketing for parent company American International Group Inc.’s third-party investment management business in Japan.

Mr. Campion is responsible for leading Matthews International Capital Management’s business development efforts in Asia. Previously, he was head of Asia distribution in Hong Kong for Threadneedle Portfolio Services Ltd. of London, and was responsible for setting up the firm’s Hong Kong office and developing its Asia distribution strategy.

Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. of New York has hired Stephen Todd Walker, 44, as managing director.

Based in Philadelphia, he is responsible for advising high-net-worth clients and institutions.

Previously, Mr. Walker was a senior vice president and corporate client group director in Philadelphia with Morgan Stanley Global Wealth Management Group of New York.

Brinton Eaton Associates Inc. of Madison, N.J., has hired Melissa Archuleta, 34, as assistant director of operations.

She is responsible for establishing and executing operating procedures, enhancing technology and communication platforms, and liaising with outside vendors in areas such as human resources and purchasing. Additionally, she is responsible for compliance activities.

Previously, Ms. Archuleta was director of operations at Kabrik Trading LLC of New York.
