The SEC approved Finra’s proposal to require that certain operations personnel register with the commission and meet examination requirements. Firms must identify covered individuals by Oct. 17, and those employees must be registered as operations professionals by Dec. 16. The new rule applies to certain senior managers or supervisors in operations and to individuals with the authority to commit capital materially in various back-office functions. Operations personnel affected by the new rule have until Oct. 17, 2012, to pass a qualifying exam. Read the regulatory notice here. See a related article here.
