Horizon Cash Management LLC of Chicago has named Michael Markowitz, 47, chief investment officer.
He remains executive vice president and a partner.
In his new role, Mr. Markowitz is responsible for setting the overall investment strategy of the firm and for overseeing all investment functions, including trading, credit research and operational aspects of the trading desk.
Stephens Inc. of Little Rock, Ark., has hired John R. Lawrence, 51, as a managing director and senior analyst.
Based in Memphis, Tenn., he will focus on small- and midcap growth retailers in such segments as automotive, convenience stores, sporting goods and consumer electronics.
Previously, Mr. Lawrence was a managing director in specialty retail at Morgan Keegan & Co. Inc. of Memphis.
Wells Fargo Advisors LLC of St. Louis has named Atul Kamra, 46, to the newly created position of head of advice.
He is responsible for orchestrating an expansion of the firm’s advice capabilities.
Previously, Mr. Kamra was president of First Clearing LLC, another St. Louis-based affiliate of Wells Fargo & Co.
Legend Advisory Corp. of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., has appointed Shashi Mehrotra, 46, president.
He will supervise all aspects of the company’s operations and business development.
Mr. Mehrotra also will continue serving as chief investment officer.
Previously, he was executive vice president.
VelocityShares LLC of Darien, Conn., has made three hires.
Daniel Aronson, 36, is a director and works closely with family offices in the development of portfolio management solutions. Previously, he was a director at Société Générale Corporate and Investment Banking in New York.
Andrew Hicks, 32, is a vice president and provides quantitative analysis and support. Previously, he was an equity specialist at Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. of New York.
Daniel Saieh, 42, is a managing director and head of Latin American sales, and will focus on expanding VelocityShares’ presence in Latin America. Previously, he was director of institutional business for Latin America at BlackRock Inc. of New York.
