The Invest in Others Charitable Foundation and InvestmentNews will present the third annual Community Leadership Awards, honoring financial advisers who make a difference in their community, at the Hilton New York Wednesday night.

The Invest in Others Charitable Foundation and InvestmentNews will present the third annual Community Leadership Awards, honoring financial advisers who make a difference in their community, at the Hilton New York Wednesday night.

Awards will be presented in three individual categories and one group category.

In the Community Service category, the finalists are W. Stephen McMahon of Wells Fargo Advisors LLC for his work with the Boys and Girls Club of Manchester (N.H.); Robert E. Wamhoff of Wamhoff Financial Planning and Ac-counting Services Inc. of Hazelwood, Mo., for Just Be-cause We Care; and Stephen Brent Wells of The Solaris Group LLC in New York for St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children.

For Mentoring Excellence, the finalists are Mason Champion of the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney branch in Lutherville, Md., for the Boys’ Latin School of Maryland golf program; Brett S. Ellen of American Financial Network/ Securities America Inc. in Calabasas, Calif., for Turn Kindness On Helping Hands; and Karen True Wins-low of Wintergreen Financial Group in Portland, Maine, for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine.

For Volunteer of the Year, the finalists are William Pickens, a Wells Fargo Advisors rep in Memphis, Tenn., for Gift of Life/Midsouth; Mary Schulte of the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney branch in Naperville, Ill., for DuPage PADS Inc.; and Robert B. Wolford of Hollencrest Capital Management in Newport Beach, Calif., for Operation Homefront.

In the group category, the finalists for the Volunteer Team Award are the Financial Planning Association’s Massachusetts chapter in Waltham for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; Peter Donovan and Wright Investors’ Service in Milford, Conn., for The School for Ethical Education; and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney advisers Scott Thole and Daniel Pierson for Chi-cago HOPE Dollars for Scholars.

Proceeds from the awards dinner will go to the Invest in Others Charitable Foundation, which supports philanthropic and volunteer activities among financial advisers.

The foundation donates $10,000 to the charity designated by each category’s honoree, as well as $500 to each of the other finalists’ charities.

Nearly 400 nominations were received for this year’s awards.
