FBI and Justice Department investigating BofA’s acquisition of Merrill

Bank of America Corp.'s acquisition of Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. is under investigation by both the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to a report report this morning in the Charlotte Observer.

The investigation lends itself to the possibility of criminal charges, but the report said that the outcome is unclear at the moment.
A spokesman for BofA told Reuters that the bank has cooperated with government authorities and that there was “”no basis for charges against the company or individuals on the management team.”
