The Charles Schwab Corp. is calling investors hurt by holding its YieldPlus Fund to offer settlements, according to two lawyers.

The San Francisco-based broker said in a statement that it addresses customer complaints on a case-by-case basis, but “we have not been proactively calling YieldPlus Fund shareholders to persuade them to enter into settlements or to not join the class.”

SEC distributes $30.6M to RS investors

The Securities and Exchange Commission said Friday that it has distributed $30.6 million to more than 250,000 investors affected by market-timing violations in mutual funds from RS Investment Management Inc. and RS Investment Management LP, both of San Francisco.

Goldberg leaves firm, takes new position

Mark Goldberg, a partner in Private Wealth Management of New York, has left the firm.

He has taken a new position but declined to discuss specific details.

Mr. Goldberg was chief executive and president of New York-based Royal Alliance Associates Inc. until he left in 2006.

Bush: The check is in the mail

President Bush Friday assured the nation that rebates from his economic-stimulus package will be arriving shortly.

The first rebates, in the form of direct deposits, which taxpayers authorized by including bank information on 2007 tax returns, will start today. Paper checks will be sent out next month.

Correction

An article in the April 21 issue, “Firms hit executive in wallet,” incorrectly reported that Gary Dunton, the former chief executive of MBIA Inc. of Armonk, N.Y., received $8.8 million in compensation for 2007. That amount was given to him last year for salary and bonus earned in 2006. His salary and bonus earned for 2007 totaled $1.98 million.
