CRPC designation deserves a shout-out

I always enjoy contributing editor Mary Beth Franklin’s On Retirement columns, particularly “Retirement designation attracts thousands” (InvestmentNews, Nov. 4), referencing three notable retirement income designations.
Given her pursuit of the certified financial planner designation, I am surprised that she didn’t mention the retirement planning designation that the College for Financial Planning offers, the chartered retirement-planning counselor.
Perhaps there is a good reason for not doing so, but as a financial planner, I found the CRPC course material very worthwhile.
For those who haven’t surveyed the college’s home page for a while, hold the tab “Designations” at the top, and scroll down to “CRPC” under “Retirement Planning.” There is a nice description about the course.
I have been through many courses before and found that this course material was worthwhile, challenging — and it was no walk in the park to qualify for the CRPC. Moreover, the college requires 16 continuing-education credits biannually to keep us fresh and current.
I would be interested in Ms. Franklin’s views about the CRPC designation, and whether she would consider this one for her advanced retirement-planning designation, as she mentioned.
