Gary Wendlandt named NYLI vice chairman

Gary Wendlandt has been named vice chairman of the board at New York Life Insurance Co.
He joins chief executive Sy Sternberg and Ted Mathas, chief operating officer on the board.
The three men are the only New York Life executives with directorial duties.
Most recently, he was senior vice president of finance and investments, as well as chief investment officer of the insurance company.
Mr. Wendlandt will maintain his duties in the finance and investments areas, and keep his role as the firm’s CIO, where he had stewardship over the firm’s $141 billion portfolio.
A six-year veteran of New York Life, Mr. Wendlandt developed New York Life Investment Management, a $250 billion enterprise of the firm.
