UBS AG today announced the appointment of a 19-year veteran of The Bear Stearns Cos. Inc. as its joint global head of fixed income, currencies and commodities for its investment-banking unit.
Jeffrey Mayer, former Bear co-head of fixed income, will work out of Zurich, Switzerland-based UBS’s New York and Stamford, Conn., offices and be responsible for all fixed-income products in this newly created position.
He will share his duties with Carsten Kengeter, who was hired Sept. 4 from The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. of New York after serving as the co-head of the Wall Street giant’s Asia securities division.
After the takeover of New York-based Bear Stearns, Mr. Mayer reportedly turned down an offer from New York-based JPMorgan Chase & Co. to serve as the vice chairman of its investment bank.
