Merrill Lynch names chief risk officer

Noel B. Donohoe will have joint responsibility with Edmond N. Moriarty who was appointed to the same position this past September.

Merrill Lynch has appointed Noel B. Donohoe as the New York-based advisory firm’s co-chief risk officer, according to Crain’s Financial Week.
He will have joint responsibility for risk management with Edmond N. Moriarty who was appointed to the same position this past September.
Mr. Donohoe’s new role comes after serving more than 20 years risk-management experience in financial services with his most recent stint being chief operating officer and a partner of Dune Capital Management. Mr. Donohoe also worked at Goldman Sachs from 1994 to 2005 and was as the head of Firmwide Risk toward the end of his tenure at Wall Street firm. Mr. Donohoe also held risk management and finance positions at Salomon Smith’s London office from 1987 to 1993.
“Noel’s appointment and the new reporting structure of risk management emphasize the importance of this area to me and to Merrill Lynch,” said John Thain, the firm’s chief executive officer in a statement.
