Merrill names global-sales-and-trading chief

John Thain’s restructuring of leadership continues as Thomas K. Montag is named head of global sales and trading.

John Thain’s restructuring of Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc.’s leadership continued today as Thomas K. Montag was named to the new position of head of global sales and trading at the New York-based company.
Mr. Montag will report directly to Mr. Thain.
“Tom is one of the most highly skilled and knowledgeable people in the securities industry. With over 20 years’ experience in the United States and internationally, Tom will help drive the firm’s strategy in key markets around the world,” Mr. Thain said in a statement.
Mr. Montag will be responsible for the firm’s global-debt-and-equity-trading activities.
Previously, he was with The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. for 22 years, serving most recently as co-head of the global-securities business, as well as a member of the company’s management committee. Prior to that, Mr. Montag was co-president of the firm’s Japanese business.
