Merrill promotes exec to vice chairman

Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. has promoted Rosemary T. Berkery to vice chairman and general counsel.

Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. has promoted Rosemary T. Berkery to vice chairman and general counsel.
In addition to her role as head of the company’s legal and compliance functions, Ms. Berkery will be responsible for global research.
Prior to this role, Ms. Berkery had been the executive vice president and general counsel at the firm since 2001.
She has held several other positions within the company, including associate general counsel, responsible for managing the Corporate Law Department; and president and director of U.S. private client marketing and investments.
Merrill also promoted Candace Browning, senior vice president and head of global research to president, Merrill Lynch Global Research.
She will report to Ms. Berkery as she continues to lead the group.
New York-based Merrill has total client assets of approximately $1.7 trillion.
