* New York Life Insurance Co. has named Mark A. Gomez, 43, vice president of the office of…

* New York Life Insurance Co. has named Mark A. Gomez, 43, vice president of the office of the general counsel. He will serve in the company’s corporate compliance department.

Mr. Gomez began his career with New York Life in 1993 as an associate counsel. Previously, he was regional counsel for the National Association of Securities Dealers Inc.

Also, Lori S. Whittaker, 37, has been promoted to Mr. Gomez’s former position of associate general counsel responsible for the broker-dealer unit.

Ms. Whittaker started with New York Life in 1997 as an associate counsel. Previously, she was with the law firm McCarter & English LLP, and she was a branch chief for the Securities and Exchange Commission.

* Greenwich Capital Markets Inc. in Connecticut has named Lisa Pendergast, 39, senior vice president of commercial-mortgage-backed-securities research. The company has also named Evan Mitnick, 35, a vice president in the asset-backed finance group.

Ms. Pendergast joins Greenwich Capital after 14 years with Prudential Securities in New York, most recently as senior vice president of commercial-mortgage-backed-securities/ franchise research.

Mr. Mitnick spent seven years as a vice president in Pru’s asset-backed finance group.

* J. & W. Seligman & Co. Inc. in New York has named Thomas P. Hirschfeld, 38, managing director of venture capital investments within its technology group.

Mr. Hirschfeld, 38, will be based in Seligman’s New York office and focus primarily on late-stage technology investments.

Mr. Hirschfeld comes from Patricof & Co. Ventures Inc. in New York, where he was a general partner, making venture investments in early-stage companies.

Also, Sangeeth Peruri and Reema Shah have joined the Seligman technology group as investment associates.

Mr. Peruri, 24, provides fundamental research and analysis across a wide variety of technology industries for the group’s venture capital efforts.

Mr. Peruri, who will be based in New York, was a strategic analyst with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co.’s technology group.

Ms. Shah, 28, will be responsible for covering the enterprise software and software infrastructure sectors.

Ms. Shah, who will be based in Palo Alto, Calif., was a senior research analyst with New York-based Credit Suisse First Boston, covering the data processing industry.

* Fidelity Investments Institutional Services Co. in Boston has promoted three executives to vice president, from director: Mitch Rothkopf in portfolio analysis and consulting services, Beth Rousseau in integrated marketing and Marilyn Whipple in marketing communications.

Mr. Rothkopf, 45, is a certified financial planner, and he will be responsible for communicating with adviser clients about world stock market and economic events.

Ms. Rousseau, 34, will be responsible for leading integrated marketing efforts.

Ms. Whipple, 42, will be responsible for coordinating marketing communications programs for clients within the adviser business unit.

* Sonnenblick-Goldman Co. in New York has appointed Yukihiro Kiriake, 43, vice president of its Tokyo office.

He will be responsible for procuring capital for commercial real estate properties for the firm’s clients through debt financing, equity raising or sales.

Mr. Kiriake will work both domestically in the Japanese market and internationally relating to Japanese client interests.

Mr. Kiriake was the general manager for 10 years of Recof, Japan’s oldest and largest mergers-and-acquisitions boutique.

* ABN Amro Inc. in Chicago has named Malcolm Wager, 36, head of trading for its global financial markets business. He will be responsible for all areas of trading, including money market, foreign exchange, government and credit trading. He will also be responsible for all derivative products.

Mr. Wager was joint head of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co.’s U.S. fixed-income derivatives business. He was also head of U.S. fixed-income derivatives trading in London and New York. Mr. Wager will be based in London.

* Wealth Builders Inc. in Little Silver, N.J., has appointed Jeremy Hudson, 23, and Andrew Patai, 26, associate financial planners. Upon completion of Wealth Builders’ Right Tools training program, they will be prepared to work with clients on their comprehensive financial planning needs.

Mr. Hudson and Mr. Patai, both recent graduates of the family financial planning program at Texas Tech University, will take the Certified Financial Planner Board’s comprehensive examination later this year.
