The Supreme Court heard oral arguments last month in a case that could affect Section 529 college savings plans. A Kentucky court ruled last year that the state’s tax on interest earned on out-of-state municipal bonds was unconstitutional. The appeal to the Supreme Court holds significance for 529 plans because they are governed as municipal securities.
