NASD last month filed a proposed rule change with the SEC that would codify certain interpretations under Rule 2711, which deals with research reports and analysts. Among other provisions, the proposal includes the definition of research reports, distribution of research through soft-dollar arrangements, and certain supervisory requirements. Also, NASD is offering interpretations of Rule 2711 provisions that would prohibit analysts from participating in the solicitation of investment banking business and road show presentations.
