Evergreen Funds of Charlotte, N.C., has hired Janet Hanson as senior vice president and chief operating officer to replace Barbara Colvin, 46, who will leave the industry at the end of this month to enter a new field. Ms. Hanson, 37, comes from KPMG Peat Marwick in Kansas City, Mo., where she was national leader of the U.S. asset management consulting practice.

New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants has named Louis Grumet executive director, effective June 1. He replaces Robert L. Gray, who resigned after 28 years. Mr. Grumet, 53, is currently executive director of the New York State School Boards Association.

Security Benefit Group Inc.. of Topeka, Kan., has hired Timothy J. Johnson as northern regional vice president. Mr. Johnson, 35, will be responsible for supporting financial institutions and training salespeople. He had been assistant vice president and regional sales manager at GLB Agency, a division of Great Lakes Bancorp in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Aetna Retirement Services of Hartford, Conn., has named William T. Johnson II managing director of retail sales for its northeast region. In the newly created position, Mr. Johnson, 51, will be based in Rocky Hill, Conn. He previously was a certified financial planner with Linsco Private Ledger in San Diego.

Hambrecht & Quist, a San Francisco-based investment bank, has appointed David M. McAuliffe, 49, chief operating officer and Paul L. “Barney” Hallingby vice chairman. Mr. McAuliffe was co-chair and administrative officer of the commitment committee. As vice chairman of the firm’s broker-dealer operation, Mr. Hallingby, 51, will continue as chairman of the equity committee and maintain oversight of European operations. He was executive vice president of sales and trading.

Conseco Inc. of Carmel, Ind., has hired D. Bruce Johnston as director of retail mutual fund sales and marketing. He is on a 30-city road show with eight portfolio managers that began last month. Mr. Johnston, 48, had been senior vice president, marketing, of Intek in Denver, a teleservicing firm to the financial services industry.

Keyport Life Insurance Co. of Boston has appointed Richard M. LaVista national director of traditional sales. He replaces Mark R. Tully, 41, who was promoted to senior vice president and chief sales officer in December. Mr. LaVista, 50, comes from PaineWebber Inc., where he was a wealth preservation consultant in Vero Beach, Fla.

Daniel C. Bryant has joined Keyport as vice president of compliance. He succeeds Bill Dixon, 66, who retired in December. Mr. Bryant, 40, was associate director and chief legal counsel for the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation in Providence.

Investment Company Institute of Washington has promoted Julie Domenick, 51, to executive vice president from senior vice president. She will continue to oversee the institute’s public affairs department.

Nvest Cos. LP (formerly New England Investment Cos.) of Boston has named Robert A. Krantz, 33, to the new post of vice president of marketing and operations for its retirement services group. He had been vice president of marketing services for Fund Distributors Inc. in Boston.

ARS Financial Services Inc. of Valley Stream, N.Y., has hired Robert Sheahan, 49, as personal financial planner. He had been a registered representative with Kirlin Securities in Syosset, N.Y.

Morgan Grenfell Capital Management in Philadelphia has hired a veteran of Phoenix Duff & Phelps Inc. to manage its new high-yield bond fund and private accounts. For 13 years, Curtiss O. Barrows, 46, had managed the Phoenix High-Yield Fund, which was rated five stars by Morningstar Inc. over three, five and 10 years.

Focused Investments LLC, a third-party marketing company in Chicago, has named Thomas E. Stamborski, 49, national sales manager. He had been vice president of business development for the financial institutions division of LaSalle Street Securities Inc., a full-service broker-dealer in Chicago.
