Two measures were added last month to the growing list of bills that aim to rein in the effect of the alternative minimum tax. HR 2318, introduced by Rep. Robert Andrews, R-N.J., would allow an AMT deduction for state and local income and property taxes. HR 2253, sponsored by Rep. Edward Royce, R-Calif., would reduce the rate of the minimum tax to 24% from 28%. Other bills also aim to minimize the effect of the AMT or abolish it altogether.
