The Internal Revenue Service plans to make recommendations to the Obama administration on how to bolster the ethical standards of paid tax preparers. Last month, IRS commissioner Doug Shulman announced that by year’s end, his agency will make recommendations to the Treasury Department about possible regulatory changes in tax preparer oversight. Currently, in most situations, tax preparers are not required to be licensed.
