REGULATION: Stricter money market fund rules possible

The SEC is considering making changes to rules governing money market mutual funds, according the agency’s chairman, Mary Schapiro.

The SEC is considering making changes to rules governing money market mutual funds, according the agency’s chairman, Mary Schapiro. In a speech last month, Ms. Schapiro said the SEC must re-examine those rules to ensure that such funds are providing investors with the “relatively safe and liquid investment that they expect.” She also said she asked the SEC staff to present a proposal to the commissioners for possible action.
