The SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission recently issued a joint report that identifies differing regulatory structures between the agencies and recommends actions to address them. Last June, the White House called on the two regulators to identify ways to harmonize regulation of securities and futures and to provide their recommendations to Congress. The report includes 20 ideas to enhance enforcement powers, strengthen market and intermediary oversight, and improve operational coordination.
