The Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking public comment on the use of derivatives by mutual funds. It will use the feedback to determine whether rulemaking is required to protect investors from the potential volatile effects of the instruments. Among other questions, the SEC’s concept release is asking how funds should value derivatives and how funds determine which derivatives to put in their portfolios. Here’s the concept release.
