The SEC is reviewing whether new investor protections are needed when it comes to the use of derivatives by mutual funds, exchange-traded funds and other types of investments. Among the things being reviewed are whether funds’ use of derivatives jibes with rules dictated by the Investment Company Act of 1940 and whether fund boards are overseeing derivative use adequately.
