The SEC last month launched a study of mark-to-market accounting and its effect on recent bank failures. Authorized by the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, the study is examining the accounting standard’s effects on balance sheets and its impact on the quality of financial information available to investors, among other issues. The SEC also is seeking public input by Nov. 13 to help it shape its study. For more information, visit sec.gov/rules/other/2008/33-8975.pdf.
