The Securities and Exchange Commission has announced that Randall R. Lee, the regional director at the SEC’s Pacific Regional Office in Los Angeles, will step down at the end of June.
Mr. Lee has not yet accepted another position and said he plans to explore opportunities in the private sector.
Appointed as the regional director of the Pacific Regional Office in December 2001, Mr. Lee oversaw several cases, including one against the former chairman of the board of trustees of the Pacific Investment Management Co. LLC’s equity funds in the first SEC market-timing case to go to trial.
During Mr. Lee’s tenure, examiners based in Los Angeles inspected hundreds of the nation’s registered entities, including broker-dealers, investment advisers, mutual funds, and transfer agents, the SEC said.
The SEC also credited him with initiating one of the inaugural monitoring teams for certain large investment advisers and led risk-targeted examinations to assess potential industry trends and problems.
Prior to joining the SEC, Mr. Lee was an assistant United States attorney in Los Angeles from 1994 to 2001.
Previously, Mr. Lee practiced corporate and securities law at the firm of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP in Los Angeles.
