Life settlements should be defined as securities, according an SEC staff report released last month. Issued by the SEC’s Life Settlements Task Force, the report recommends that the agency consider encouraging Congress to expand the legal definition of securities to include life settlements. In such an investment, an investor essentially purchases an individual’s life insurance policy for a set amount and then takes over paying the premiums. For more details, click here.
