The SEC plans to offer guidance to the mutual fund industry for its use of so-called soft dollars, according to a recent InvestmentNews report.

The SEC plans to offer guidance to the mutual fund industry for its use of so-called soft dollars, according to a recent InvestmentNews report. In July 206, the SEC published an interpretive release that outlined the types of services allowed with soft dollars, which are brokerage commissions used to pay for research and other services. A new release would provide guidance to funds’ boards of directors when it comes to executing their oversight responsibilities for trades involving soft dollars.
