TAX: Estate tax bill advances

The House voted last month to permanently extend the estate tax.

The House voted last month to permanently extend the estate tax. HR 4154 would extend a 2009 45% tax rate on estates worth more than $3.5 million and would cancel a provision in older legislation that has a one-year repeal of the tax scheduled for this year. The measure awaits action in the Senate. For a look at the bill, visit thomas.loc.gov/.
