The Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility said today that it has compiled “climate-risk profiles” on more than 150 companies that are the subjects of 2009 shareholder resolutions filed by socially conscious investors. The profiles were assembled using data from Trucost PLC, an independent environmental data company in London. Trucost maintains the world’s largest databank of companies’ greenhouse gas emissions. With this information in hand, shareholders and investors won’t have to rely exclusively on figures the companies provide when determining the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from these firms, ICCR said in a statement. In addition to greenhouse gas emissions, the profiles take into account more than 700 environmental indicators, including water use, waste disposal and emissions that cause smog and acid rain. They also consider whether a company discloses the greenhouse-gas emissions from its operations and the company’s emissions compared with the sector average and industry peers. The ICCR of New York is a coalition of nearly 300 faith-based institutional investors, representing more than $100 billion in invested capital.
