Vanguard Group, the biggest U.S. mutual fund firm, experienced technical problems Wednesday that made it difficult for some customers to access its website by phone or the internet amid the market rout. The company blamed "periodic network connectivity issues" for the difficulties. "We continue to work on restoring full access and sincerely apologize to our clients who were inconvenienced," spokesman John Woerth wrote in an email. Mr. Woerth said the technical issues were unrelated to heavy volume on the site on a day when U.S. stocks tumbled the most since February. (More: Vanguard wrestles with new service problems)
