Cincinnati Financial founder Schiff dies

Cincinnati Financial Corp. said Monday that Robert C. Schiff, a company founder who retired from the property and casualty insurer's board in 2004, has died. He was 86.

Cincinnati Financial Corp. said Monday that Robert C. Schiff, a company founder who retired from the property and casualty insurer's board in 2004, has died. He was 86. A company news release said Schiff died on Jan. 7 but did not disclose details. Cincinnati Financial said Schiff had been a director of Cincinnati Financial since its incorporation in 1968. Schiff retired in 2004 from the boards of the parent company and its four insurance subsidiaries. He simultaneously retired from Schiff, Kreidler-Shell Inc., a Cincinnati area insurance agency where he had served as chairman since 1991 and president from 1984 to 1991. He formed Schiff, Kreidler-Shell in 1984 after leaving as senior vice president of Cincinnati Insurance to expand his agency business. He began his insurance career as an agent in 1945. Schiff is survived by his wife, Adele; their two sons, James A. Schiff and Robert C. Schiff Jr.; and six grandchildren.
