When you ask Seth Streeter what he likes about the financial advice industry, he talks about what he loves.

“I love that we operate from a place of caring,” Streeter said. “In finance, it's such a head-based industry, and we try to be more heart-based. And so that's how we care for our team. That's how we show up and add additional value for our clients. I love that it’s a vehicle impact.”

Streeter, co-founder and chief impact officer at Santa Barbara, California-based Mission Wealth, a $6.4 billion firm, will be one of the speakers at the upcoming Advisor Insights Lab, hosted by InvestmentNews and sponsored by Thrivent Advisor Network. The free webinar takes place Thursday.

On top of being caring, Streeter added that he needs to be the light in someone’s eyes. He said that if he’s not making his family, friends or clients smile, then he’s not connected to them and needs to fix that.

“Impact is all about connection. If we have a lens on life to try to be service-oriented, and we focus on others, and try to really feel what they're feeling and understand where they are in life, then we can show up for them and create a more positive impact for them,” he said.

These are just a few of the ideas that are expected to be explored during Streeter’s panel, Purpose in Action, which will discuss what advisors are doing at their firms to maximize the positive impact they have on their stakeholders.

“It's really that lens of awareness of how others are engaging with you,” Streeter said. “And being able to feel like your job is to be a beacon in their life. If you bring that inspiration into other people's lives, then you'll see that their eyes shine, and then they'll be a beacon for others. So there's a ripple effect.”

When it comes to team building at his firm, Streeter cited retreats and regional get-togethers. Staffers volunteer and do icebreakers and listening exercises together, which helps build culture and invests in the team members so they can invest in their clients.

Another point to be discussed at the webinar is there’s more to the business than just managing money.

“We help clients with their lives, not just with their money,” Streeter said. “Money is part of life. If we are only talking about money as advisors, we're truly missing out on our ability to be a greater impact in our clients’ lives.”

Streeter hopes the advisors who attend the webinar take inspiration from the discussions. “The more you care, the more you can grow, and the more successful you'll be,” he said. “Helping people think about how to redefine wealth beyond just the finances is a huge differentiator in our industry. So it's something we've been doing. And it's something that really helps people.”
