InvestmentNews has re-launched its RIA Rankings with a number changes to underlying data - and tools to create your own rankings. This new RIA Data Center allows you to filter through a targeted universe of fee-only RIAs, based on information supplied to the Securities and Exchange Commission through the Form ADV. The SEC has information on roughly 11,000 firms, but we whittled down that list to highlight fee-only firms that actively provide advice and financial planning services to individual investors. (For more precise detail on the methodology, just take a look at the bottom of any page within the RIA Data Center.) Over time, we will look to incorporate hybrids into this data set. But we wanted to start with this focused and concentrated universe as well developed more advanced rankings and search capabilities. With the new RIA Data Center, you can rank roughly 2,200 fee-only firms by assets, number of accounts, average assets per account, and a number of other specific data points. You can also create rankings within each of the 50 states, search for firms within a specific asset range, and view firms that have the highest concentration of HNW individuals within their client base. We hope you find this to be a valuable tool in defining this rapidly growing part of the business. We welcome all feedback, thoughts and suggestions for improvement. So please do not hesitate to contact the InvestmentNews Data Team directly with any questions or comments.
